DAISY Award Presented to Jennifer Wood for Excellence in Patient-Centered Care
(Kansas City, MO) – Advanced Correctional Healthcare, Inc. (ACH) is proud to present Regional Nurse Manager Jennifer Wood with a DAISY Award for her unwavering advocacy, compassion, and commitment to patient-centered care at the Jackson County Detention Center in Missouri.
The DAISY Foundation’s DAISY Award recognizes nurses “for the super-human work they do for their patients and families [of the patients] every day.” While the DAISY Award is well-known in the hospital setting, ACH partnered in 2017 as the first and only correctional health care provider to present this award to its associates. When nurses are honored with the DAISY Award, they receive an award certificate, a DAISY pin, and the Healer’s Touch sculpture. They are also featured on the DAISY Foundation’s website.
Jennifer Wood’s nomination stated: “At approximately 5:00 PM, a medically complex patient was unexpectedly transferred from a long-term acute care hospital into custody. The transition was sudden, and the facility was not pre-equipped to manage the patient’s significant medical and mobility needs. Rather than allowing these barriers to compromise care, Jennifer Wood immediately stepped forward with calm leadership and decisive action. Understanding the urgency of the situation, she coordinated with the local fire department to assist with the patient’s transfer and positioning for the night, supporting the patient’s immediate security and comfort. Her proactive communication and collaboration prevented potential injury and demonstrated her deep commitment to preserving dignity within the correctional environment. Recognizing that ongoing care called for specialized equipment, she worked swiftly with jail administration and a durable medical equipment company to secure a hospital bed and a transfer lift. These efforts helped provide the patient with appropriate support for mobility, pressure injury prevention, and overall medical stability while in custody. Her determination and resourcefulness transformed what could have been a great concern situation into one of thoughtful, coordinated, and patient-centered care.”
ACH demonstrates a steady commitment to patients, clients, and associates, and puts people over profits. ACH has received two Better Business Bureau Torch Awards for Ethics and has recently earned its 11th consecutive year of Great Place to Work certification. ACH was also honored at Music City's Community Choice Awards for having the Best Employee Recognition Program and was named “Best Hospital & Health Care Business of the Year” in the Global 100 Awards for 2025 and 2026.
