ACH Welcomes Sixth Circuit Decision Affirming Commitment to Professional Standards and Fair Process
(Franklin, TN) - Advanced Correctional Healthcare, Inc. (ACH) is grateful for the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals’ recent published decision affirming the district court’s rulings in Victor v. Reynolds, et al., including the grant of judgment as a matter of law in ACH’s favor and the denial of discovery sanctions.
The Court concluded that there was no admissible evidence to establish that any ACH associate had been contacted regarding the plaintiff’s medication during Victor’s brief time in the jail and therefore that no basis existed for a claim against ACH or the medical providers who staffed that jail. It also held that the trial court properly refused Plaintiff’s request for sanctions. The appellate court affirmed the defense judgment in full. ACH recognizes that this case arose from a significant injury to the Plaintiff. We remain mindful that at the center of every legal proceeding is a human story, and we continue to hold the individual and his family in our thoughts and prayers. At the same time, ACH is thankful that the judicial process confirmed what our organization has consistently maintained: that ACH associates acted within professional standards and that no evidence supported claims of wrongdoing by the medical team. We appreciate the Court’s careful review of the record and its reaffirmation that legal decisions must rest on reliable, admissible evidence.
As a private family-owned company, ACH approaches correctional healthcare as a calling as well as a profession. Our mission is to provide compassionate, clinically appropriate care to every patient we serve, regardless of circumstance. We believe that dignity, accountability, and stewardship are essential to that mission. We also recognize the importance of transparency and continuous improvement.
ACH is honored to serve communities across the country, working alongside sheriffs, correctional officers, and local leaders who share the goal of protecting both public safety and detainee health. Court decisions like this one reinforce the importance of basing serious allegations on verified facts and fair process, which ultimately strengthens trust in the systems that serve our communities. We remain committed to serving with humility and professionalism.
