Dr. Melissa S. Caldwell, Director of Mental Health Services, CCHP, holds a doctorate in Clinical/Community Psychology with specialization in Human Development and the Law. She is a Certified Correctional Healthcare Professional (CCHP) by the National Commission on Correctional Health Care (NCCHC). This certification recognizes professionalism and excellence among individuals employed in Correctional Healthcare. She has over 20 years’ experience working with correctional and forensic populations – as a researcher and a practitioner in state psychiatric and correctional facilities, as well as for sheriff’s departments in detention facilities. She serves on several committees whose missions are to improve the quality of mental health care among incarcerated persons and among the officers entrusted to manage them. She is frequently requested as a speaker on the state and national level on issues of mental health issues in jails and detention facilities.

Norman R. Johnson, MD, FACP, ABAM, founder and Chief Executive Officer of Advanced Correctional Healthcare, Inc. (ACH) has over 30 years’ experience in direct healthcare management. Dr. Johnson is board certified in two specialties, internal medicine and addiction medicine (ABAM). He is a member of the Academy of Correctional Health Professionals and Society of Correctional Physicians, is a frequent trainer at the National Commission on Correctional Healthcare (NCCHC), and is an NCCHC Certified Correctional Health Professional. In November 2016, Dr. Johnson was recognized as a fellow with the American College of Physicians.

Dr. Johnson possesses extensive experience in the correctional healthcare environment, including facility analysis, program development, professional staffing, and contract negotiation. He is actively involved with client relations and provides educational programs for national, state, and county associations. As CEO, Dr. Johnson draws from his managed healthcare experience to position ACH as an industry leader that provides the highest standards in correctional healthcare.

Michael Roach, DO, Corporate Medical Director, started with ACH as a site practitioner in Missouri. He quickly showed leadership and problem-solving skills which moved him into the role of a Regional Medical Director, and eventually into the role of Corporate Medical Director.

Dr. Roach brings a fresh sense of leadership to our Practitioner Services Department. Dr. Roach’s background includes being a leader in education; he has twelve years of experience in lecturing on various medical topics, including patient care and risk reduction for Kirkville College of Osteopathic Medicine and Kansas City University of Medicine and Bioscience. Dr. Roach’s background in the medical practice includes family medicine, urgent care, ER, and hospital-based care.

In his role as Corporate Medical Director, Dr. Roach hires, trains, and supervises over 85 practitioners treating more than 33,000 patients in excess of 300 correctional facilities across 17 states while tracking trends in the correctional healthcare industry.

(ACH) was raised in a small farming town in Northwestern Illinois.  The Peoria area has been her home since 1975.  For sixteen years Mrs. Johnson owned and operated one of Central Illinois’ most renowned jewelry and gift establishments, Johnson Fine Jewelry, Bridal, and Gifts in Peoria.

Together with her husband in 2002, Mrs. Johnson founded Advanced Correctional Healthcare, Inc. (ACH).  The combination of Dr. and Mrs. Johnson’s business expertise, common sense, and strong work ethic are the driving force behind ACH’s unprecedented success in the correctional healthcare industry reaching the Inc. 5000 award three times and receiving Fortune’s Great Place to Work® Certification in July of 2017.

Michael A. Mitcheff, DO, MBA, CCHP, Physician Consultant, has nearly 20 years of experience taking care of incarcerated people housed in juvenile, county, and prison facilities. In his role as Physician Consultant, Dr. Mitcheff works to develop strategies to improve the organization, serves as site practitioner in selective facilities, and monitors prescriptions for appropriateness.

Before coming to ACH, Dr. Mitcheff served as the Chief Medical Officer of the Indiana Department of Corrections. In that role, he assisted correctional facilities with the Request for Proposal and bidding process. Prior to that, Dr. Mitcheff worked for Corizon, where all of his correctional facilities became certified by the American Correctional Association. This accomplishment earned his team the Golden Eagle Award, which represents the highest commitment to excellence in correctional operations and acknowledges the dedication of his team to enhancing public safety and the well-being of incarcerated people.
